overspecialized cartoon idea

Sports cartoons -- with the exception of Tank McNamara -- are almost uniformly awful. (Has there ever been a funny Bill Gallo cartoon?)

Anyway. Julio Franco* somewhere in the infield, surrounded by teammates warming up, taking ground balls, etc. Franco is waving a bat over his head like a cane and shouting "Get off my lawn!"

*If I can't even draw a recognizable doctor, I sure as hell can't draw Julio Franco.

There used to be a panel cartoon that made me look at the sports section every day, "In The Bleachers," I believe is the title. I miss it. It was a Far Side for sports. The first day's installment showed a jogger waiting at an intersection while the "Walk" light sign said "Jog In Place Like An Idiot."

I liked the New Yorker cover with the Giants, and a grossly overmuscled #22 in the outfield.
