another curious omission

Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze", which peaked at #6 in 1972 and is unquestionably one of the top 100 songs of 1972 (it should rank around #66) is not in the top 100 of 1972 set. Hmm. (The number 100 song in the set I was given is the Isley Brothers' "Pop That Thang", which peaked at #24.)

"Summer Breeze" would probably have made my top 500, but it's not one of my favorites. I can't help wondering what else is missing, though. The game's still fun, anyway.

That certainly is a curious omission.

Is this a commercial compilation? Is it Billboard's Top 100? Although seems like even Cash Box or Rolling Stone would have S&C too...

See, I've never known. I don't have the sets themselves. They claim to be Billboard; any time I play one of the mp3s on Media Player, a picture comes up that says "Billboard Top 100 of [insert year]". But there've always been aspects that made me wonder: occasional album versions, live versions, and even different mixes (clearly noticeable, for example, in a vastly inferior mix of "Pop Muzik"). But the large majority of the tracks sound right.
