Why, when I was nineteen years old and obsessed with the strange avant-funk of the first, eponymous, 1983 Golden Palominos album, did no one tell me that I really needed to hear Miles Davis's On the Corner?

You must have missed that issue of Creem or Rolling Stone or whatever it was--and I think it might have been several places--Where Lester Bangs raves about it.

IIRC, that LP got a mixed reception in the jazz world. Now it seems very accessible and...well, great.

It wasn't even a very mixed reception, so far as I can tell; it was widely reviled within jazz. It sure does sound amazing now, amazing long grooves that never wear out their welcome.
