"Keep Searchin'" is my second favorite Del Shannon song, after (of course) "Runaway". For most artists, it would be their best song without question.

"Elenore" is, coincidentally, my second-favorite Turtles song, after "She's My Girl".

I know we have the advantage of knowledge of the band in retrospect, but it's hard to believe they weren't mocking their audience:

Elenore, gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You're my pride and joy, et cetera

Did everyone find this funny at the time? Or did people just take it in stride?

I certainly hope people found it funny. I sure do.
