From the various-artists compilation Seattle Syndrome. Seattle in 1981 was strictly local, well before Seattle got famous in rock circles. Seattle Syndrome was a good album, and varied, too, but you'd probably never heard of the bands unless you were from Seattle in that era (hi Randy!) except maybe the Fastbacks (and maybe the Blackouts if you were a Ministry fanatic).

Student Nurse never had an album, just an e.p. (As Seen on T.V.) and a couple singles. "Discover Your Feet" wasn't on any of them. I love the song to this day, and it's a good #1 song to lead off with.

That was fun. Were they originally from Skamania county?

I don't know; in fact, I don't know anything at all about them except their names (Helayna Rogers, John Rogers, Al Evans, Joe Harris) and they're from Seattle. And they played a lot around town in the eighties.

I found this, though.

Somewhere in my apartment I have Loser, a very complete history of the Seattle rock scene, which surely has at least a few paragraphs of Student Nurse.

I moved to Seattle in 1984, so some of these bands aren't familiar to me or are only known to me by name (e.g., the Fartz). I actually did manage to see Student Nurse at the Metropolis right before the Metropolis closed. It was the only show I saw there too.

I think the "notify of subsequent posts via email" thing doesn't work.

Also, I was trying to make a joke about the kind of music, which felt very ska-ish to me. Sorry!

Luke: Hmm. A lot of things don't work now. I will work on the notify thing.

My brain, on the other hand, doesn't work on lots of jokes now!

Randy, I never saw Student Nurse, despite lots of opportunities. Lots of the bands of "Seattle Syndrome" were broken up by the time it came out, apparently.
