Syreeta ● Cause We're Ended As Lovers

"Cause We're Ended As Lovers" is from Syreeta's second album Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta; every song was written by Syreeta's ex-husband Stevie Wonder and mostly co-written by Syreeta, although this song was written by Stevie Wonder solo. Syreeta's first two albums, by the way, are lovely.

That's lovely. My memory of the albums was that there a bit too much of that--in larger doses, it got treacly.

The actual Stevie Wonder (you know, by Stevie) song it sounds like (to me) is "They Won't Go When I Go".

Some of the songs in Syreeta's albums got very early-seventies Stevie-Wonder-ish pop, to the point where you can't imagine what prevented it from being a hit ("I'm Goin' Left"). And some of the songs got, not so much treacly, but girly-laughing-embarrassingly kind of stuff ("Your Kiss Is Sweet"). Still, to me the two early Syreeta albums are good minor early-seventies Stevie Wonder albums -- which means, to me, pretty fascinating. (I know it's bad to discuss Syreeta's albums as Stevie; but I listen to them, and they sound like Stevie.)
