"Ornithology" was written by Charlie Parker and Benny Harris, over the chord progression of "How High the Moon" (music by Morgan Lewis). This particular recording was taped live at Birdland (New York), and broadcast over the radio. It was eventually released in a few places, notably Charlie Parker's One Night In Birdland (1977) and Bud Powell's Tempus Fugue-It (2001), a four-disc anthology of Powell's early work.

Fats Navarro (trumpet), Charlie Parker (alto saxophone), Bud Powell (piano), Curly Russell (bass), Art Blakey (drums).
