Of course you know Cab Calloway (and if you don't, I get to introduce you); his most famous song was "Minnie the Moocher", and for a time his big band was as popular as Duke Ellington's. He was loaded with charisma, and he also was a virtuoso singer, so much so that today his big band, in my opinion, was overlooked.

"Good Sauce From the Gravy Bowl" was written by Edwin Swayze (a trumpet player who also wrote "Father's Got His Glasses On"), Calloway, and the inevitable Irving Mills.
