Brian Dewan plays electric zither, among other things. "Wastepaper-Basket Fire" is from his debut (of three) albums, Brian Dewan Tells the Story. I've seen him three times, but I didn't know till today that he's an interesting multi-media artist. (I didn't know he did the interior artwork of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel and the cover art for Lincoln by They Might Be Giants. Among other more fascinating things.)

Whoa. I liked that reasonably well: it felt like an old folk ballad that somehow stumbled into the modern age.

But I want to alert you to the weird connections on the Parlando Playlist.

Brian Dewan (who I didn't know of previously, although I knew those album covers) is the cousin of Leon Dewan, as noted in that Wikipedia page.

Leon Dewan played guitar early on in Senator Flux (that's him soloing on the tracks on the Some New Ruins compilation I linked to). (I went to college with Leon, who's a good guy.)

In other words, the world is a weird place.

HOLY CRAP I KNOW THAT SONG! Mostly because I saw TMBG about a zillion times between 1992 and 1997, and he was their opening act a lot. The audience did NOT know what to do with that song.

Did he play "Feel the Brain"? That was my favorite, very low and fervent, the last song from Tells the Story. I requested it once, and he played it, seeming happy.
