Raul Seixas, or sometimes called "Maluco Beleza" (roughly "Crazy Cool"), was born in Salvador, Brazil in 1945, and died of pancreatitis forty-four years later. He still packed in twenty-one albums.

His first album was Krig-ha, Bandolo! According to Wikipedia, the title refers to Hal Foster's Tarzan comic strips: " 'Krig-ha, Bandolo' was one of Tarzan's war cries, meaning 'Watch out, the enemy's near.' " Excellent! "Mosca na Sopa" ("Fly in the Soup") was the lead song*; a fine launch to a career.

*there was a minute-long "Introdução", a nine-year-old Raul singing "Good Rockin' Tomight".

Wacky! Buzzying!

One of those songs that makes me wonder whether there's a whole genre I've never heard before, or whether it's just that this one guy was a stone cold freak.

Mostly the latter.
