The first album by M.D.C.; I assumed they were called Millions of Dead Cops, but it turned out the band name changed every album, keeping the initials MDC. They were the first or second wave -- I was an eighteen-year-old snotty punk, I didn't give a damn what wave -- of American hardcore punk, hailing from* Austin.

"John Wayne Was a Nazi" is now thirty-one years old. To give that perspective, when it was new, thirty-one years before that rock-n-roll had yet to be discovered.

*"hailing from" means I've been reading too many band bios.

That year perspective thing. Yes it keeps resonating to me but not sure of the significance. But it is a measure. The immediate post wwii period to the Viet Nam pop 60s was 20 years. 1970 to now, 43 years. What is the significance...

To me: I'm old.

"John Wayne was a fag" -- Repo Man.

I had never actually heard any MDC, although my younger brother claimed he was into them at one point. That's not bad, but I like the opening seconds best. (As with most punk, it sounds nowhere as abrasive now as it must have at the time.)

Oh, yeah. Early '80s metal, too.
