parlando playlist #76: the dismemberment plan - the dismemberment plan gets rich [2000]

Velma and went to see the Dismemberment Plan last night. It was wonderful. The last time was eleven? twelve? years ago, the tour when they announced their breakup. When we saw them in New York, they played two shows on consecutive nights. We saw both of them, and it was good that we saw both: they played only one crossover song between the two nights, so we saw 49 songs, all of them, to me, awesome. They were my favorite band. It was awful that they were breaking up, but both concerts were the highlight of my concert-going experience, period (and full stop, too).

When I ran my Song Project (now abandoned), the penultimate one, written in the throes of language-impairment (which was the cause of my abandonment), was an essay about the Plan's "Following Through" (last night's first encore, to Velma and my delight). I don't write song essays much now, but Parlando Playlist is my substitute.

"The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich" was a split single with Juno. It didn't appear on a American album, though it appeared on a Japan-only compilation album, also named The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich [2000]. (I've never seen it.)

I remember when you went to those shows!

That song gets filed in the "angular funk" folder of my brain, which is where Gang of Four live as well; I suspect their fandoms overlap.

And wow, how cool that Travis from the Plan dropped you that note.

I was so grateful that he did that. I was still in the hospital.

I suspect their fandoms overlap.

Well, their fandoms overlap in one case (me)! (Though immediately I think of one drastic difference: The Plan has a sense of humor.)
