Parlando is my place to muse about music and words. If some of this turns into conversations, I'd enjoy that.
But it is my place. If just reading that sentence annoys you, this isn't the place for you. I know this is an alien thought for some folks, but not every place is for everyone, nor should be. There are many kinds of conversation available on the net. If you don't like mine, find another. Don't give me a hard time.
Most people, I think, don't need to have that explained. If you're cool with the idea that this is a party and I'm the host, welcome! We'll probably get along. I hope you'll be polite to the other guests. That said, I don't have rules of politeness; my experience on the net is that if you codify conversational rules, jerks will inevitably find ways to break the spirit of the rule while hewing to the letter. In particular, rules against "personal attacks" and "ad hominem" seem to encourage a certain type of person to be rude in every other way -- ignoring and twisting other people's arguments, sneering in tone without being explicitly insulting, deprecating groups of people while avoiding attacking specific people, etc -- provoking others to personal attacks then triumphantly crying that they didn't insult anyone. I'm not interested in playing lawyer. Respect others. Try to not be a jerk. If I think you're being a jerk, I'll ask you to stop. Everyone's a jerk sometimes. If you're a serial jerk -- by my standards -- I'll kick you out. I don't expect to have to do that much.
Cool? Excellent. Have a nice beverage. Cheers.
